Backyard Bird Sanctuary

The Premises

This lovely, rambling 1930s midwestern home is situated directly across from a large meadow and a creek that runs through it.

The Job

My clients went to Mexico for two weeks and left me with a very specific assignment: to ensure that the birds that flock to their backyard were fed during their absence. There’s a lot of of wildlife in the area, but without regular monitoring and refilling, the bird feeders are emptied and it takes months for the birds to return.

I put out suet cakes and sunflower seeds every few days. While doing my usual check around the house, I found a bag of food containers a neighbor had returned hanging from a door handle, so I brought them in. I watered plants and diagnosed the cause of a leaky kitchen faucet. I was glad to help ensure that the birds would still be there to welcome the owners back home.

The Reference

Our recent vacation was one of the best ever, and one of the reasons is that I didn’t worry about what I’d find when I returned. Our kids are grown and we are pet-free, but house plants and bird feeders still need attention! During a recent absence, knowing that Jim Trumm was making regular visits freed me to enjoy being away and look forward to coming home. Jim’s regular e-mail check-ins were especially welcome. I returned to healthy plants and a steady stream of hungry birds at the feeders thanks to Jim’s visits, and I recommend him without reservation!
